Solo travel doesn't mean you're alone! 🌍 I've met so many wonderful people throughout my travels who have really shaped my experiences.

Even though I've loved experiencing places, I've loved experiencing people even more. 🗺️👫

Whether we did a tour or activity together, shared a few drinks, rode a bus together, met in passing, or even had a little travel romance, I am so happy that I met you. 😊

If you're thinking of going on a solo trip but are nervous about getting lonely - don't be! Stay at a hostel, go on group tours/excursions, go on a bar crawl, talk to people around you, join an online traveler Facebook group! There are tons of ways to meet people while traveling (even dating apps!), so don't let loneliness stop you.

Discover Puerto Escondido, my favorite beach destination! 🏖 If you’re seeking a laid-back surfer town with something for everyone, look no further.

🌍 HOW TO GET THERE ✈️
Getting here varies:

- Direct flight from Mexico City for as low as $40 one way.
- From Oaxaca, catch a 45-min flight via AeroTucan or AeroVega (around $200 one way).
- Alternatively, drive or take a shuttle 🚗 (6-7 hours) or take an ADO bus 🚌 (10-12 hours) for a smoother ride. Taking a shuttle will run you about $20, while the ADO bus is around $40.

🏨 WHERE TO STAY 🏩
Options abound for all budgets:

- Hostels: Casa Punta, Vivo Escondido, Bonita Escondida, Puerto Dreams (my fave!) 🏡
- Mid-budget Hotels: Hotel Santa Fe, Hotel Rockaway, Casa de Olas Boutique Hotels, Hotel Gallo del Mar 🏩

- Car rentals 🚗 are possible but parking can be limited.

Enjoy the water and more:

- Learn to surf 🏄‍♀️
- Go whale 🐋 and dolphin 🐬 watching; swim with them! 🌊
- Experience bioluminescence on a night boat 🚤 trip - it’s like swimming among stars ✨
- Simply relax at the public 🏖 beaches; some are perfect for non-surfers.

Budget-friendly Puerto Escondido:

- Tours range from $35 - $150.
- Hostels start at $10/night, and dining out costs less than $30/day.
- Public transportation (colectivos) is about $.56USD per ride.
- Taxis vary depending on distance and time. Plan for $4-$11 per ride. 🌮🚌🚖

What’s that? Allow me to explain: 🤔

A stopover program is offered by airlines to incentivize travelers to visit a city on their way to another destination. Stopovers can range from a few hours to a few days at no cost to the traveler. Many airlines also offer discounts for hotels and activities during your stay, so you can make the most of your stopover. 🏨🍽️🚶‍♂️

So how do you get this benefit? Here are some airlines that currently offer stopovers: ✈️

TAP Air Portugal - You can make a stop in Porto or Lisbon on your way to another destination for free for up to 10 days with discounts on hotels, restaurants, and experiences from TAP Air’s partners. 🇵🇹💼

Iceland Air - Add Reykjavik to your itinerary on your way to your next destination at no cost to you. You can stay in the capital city for up to 7 days! 🇮🇸🏔️

Qatar Airways - Stop in Doha for up to 4 days and get an amazing package deal on your entire stay - starting from $14 a night at a 4-star hotel. 🇶🇦🏙️

Turkish Airlines - Stay in Istanbul for a night for FREE with Turkish Airlines’s stopover program! If you have at least a 20-hour layover, Turkish Airlines will pay your hotel (1 night at a 4-star for Economy passengers and 2 nights at a 5-star for business passengers!) 🇹🇷🕌

Etihad Airlines - Stay up to four nights on your way to your final destination in Abu Dhabi with up to a 40% discount at 4 and 5-star hotels with one of Etihad’s partners! 🇦🇪🌴

I used to be a serious overpacker. Traveling more than a few days with just a carry on or even just one suitcase seemed IMPOSSIBLE. Now, I think twice about bringing a checked bag, because I can now fit everything I need pretty comfortably in a carry on. And if I do bring a checked bag, it’s my @ospreypacks backpack!

Pro tips:

- Packing cubes really help organize your clothes and fit everything into your bag
- Use a hanging toiletry kit for all your toiletries
- Try using soap, shampoo, conditioner, and face wash bars to save space in your 1 L toiletry bag
- Heels are cute, but tend to take up too much space. Go for a cute pair of sandals instead!
- Feel free to replace any of these items or exclude them (i.e if you don’t wear skirts or dresses)
